This BMW final stage unit  AKA a climate control / heater fan control unit - common symptoms may include the ac/heater fan will stop functioning or may run at a constant speed without being able to adjust / set the speed from the climate control unit, run at normal speed and then speed up with out adjusting the controls, or even contine to run after the motor vehicle has been turned off - all these symptoms are common of a defective BMW final stage blower motor resistor unit.

It is important to change the cabin filters regularly, because if air is restricted from circulating into the blower motor compartment from a dirty clogged up cabin filter, this will cause the blower motor and other components such as the blower regulator, blower resistor or ac final stage unit to overheat and this will be an expensive repair, which could have been avoided by replacing the cabin filter/s.
